How to Write a Great Coursework

21 Dec 2016

Coursework is a popular type of papers for college. It shows the teacher what they have learned from one course of in a whole year. It counts as a part of the grade achieved in the course. Also, there is an option of Coursework Only Degree in some universities. But not everyone knows how to make a coursework properly. That is why in this article we will take a look at some key points of any coursework and some tips on how to make a resume relevant coursework.

  • Selecting a topic

Select a topic carefully. Make sure you fully understand the goal of your coursework and understand the topic. Familiarize yourself with the requirements for the paper. Depending on the topic you might need to provide some statistics results, graphics, polls, surveys etc. Do not take a very popular topic, you probably will not be able to find any new information and retelling what has been said a million times is just pointless. Find something new, be creative.

  • Ask for help

I know that we all want to show that we have already grown up and we can make research on our own, especially if we are university students. But never neglect teacher's help. If you do not understand something or you just want to know whether the topic you have chosen good or now, feel free to contact your supervising teacher. He will always try to answer all of your questions, will help you narrow down the topic if necessary and tell you what sources it is better to use.

  • Make a plan

Making your work according to a plan is always a good idea. It will save you quite a lot of time and if you really make a good and well-thought-out plan you will avoid confusing situations. Built your plan according to requirements. Remember that they may vary depending on the institution.

  • Choose a research method

Your methods might also vary depending on the topic you have chosen. It may include observations, polls, surveys, analysis, experiments and so on and so forth. Consult with you supervising teacher to help you to decide which method is the best for you.

  • Gather information

Start collecting all the information you will need. Make a lot of notes, believe me, every word you will write down might help you somehow. Also, do not forget to cite every source you have used in your paper. Give some credit to the authors.

  • Proofread

The last but not least thing to do with all your written assignments. Correct your grammar mistakes, change something while you still have time.

Many students face the problem on the very first level - choosing a topic. And this is not surprising at all because this is quite difficult thing to do. If you cannot think of anything on our own, feel free to consult your teacher. If you want to do this by yourself - use brainstorming, make a list.

For example, if you want to write about geography, put it at the top of the list and then break it down to smaller things. Ask yourself such questions like where? what? how?  Also, it is not against the law to look up something online. Just type “GCSE geography coursework examples” for instance, and see how it supposed to look like.

You can see any kind of papers online, “relevant coursework resume examples”, “A level coursework examples” and so on and so forth. The Internet has it all. But remember, do not use these as a base for you work. You can look but you cannot not touch. It is not your work and you have your own head after all, you can write it all by yourself. Use those examples as a source of inspiration and nothing more.

What to DO and what NOT TO DO

Always have a backup copy of your work. Writing takes a lot of time and you never know what might happen to your computer. Better safe than sorry.

Do NOT leave your essay on its first stage. There is always a room for improvement. Narrow down a topic, find more information, look at the situation from a different angle.

Make sure you have a final draft prior to the deadline, just to have some time to look at it with fresh eyes.

Do NOT wait until the last minute. It is always obvious when you did not do a proper research and wrote everything in a hurry.

Use proper language. Avoid wordy sentences, simplifications and generalizations. It does not mean that you need to use only scientific terms but make your coursework look professional.

Do NOT use slang, jargon and any other kind of language that is not supposed to be in an academic paper.

Stick to the structure of the work. Write down all your information according to the structure: introduction, main body, conclusion.

Do NOT add any new information in the conclusion.
