Global warming has been a very popular topic to be discussed lately because of the world’s concerns about our environment. There is no doubt that people put too much carbon dioxide into the air and this is what the theory of global warming comes from. But the real question is whether or not man is actually having a big influence on how fast these changes are being made. After Al Gore made the movie, An Inconvenient Truth, people started becoming better educated about the topic. So, people around the world have been given the opportunity to develop thoughts about this topic.

First one should look at proof that shows global warming does exist. Humans have been emitting incredibly large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The admissions of these greenhouse gases are showing climate changes, which are affecting the world currently. The ozone layer is heating up and since this is happening things, such as icebergs are melting. With this, sea level is rising and scientists have been predicting that some cities near the water will soon be gone. Other reasons that show global warming is taking affect, are the drastic climate changes. People throughout the world have been experiencing record temperatures that cannot be explained. Studies have been showing that over the past 50 years now, there has been an exponential growth of carbon dioxide emissions and because of this the temperatures have increased. The release of greenhouse gases explains a lot about global warming; yet there are still many questions that have not been answered yet.

However, lots of people believe that global warming is simply a myth. One of the most common arguments against global warming is about the ice ages’. An ice age is a geological period of long-term reduction in the temperature of the Earth’s surface and atmosphere, resulting in an expansion of continental ice sheets, polar ice sheets, and alpine glaciers. Scientists are trying to show that the reason for why temperatures have been increasing is because they believe that the Earth is coming towards its peak in the interglacial period. As of right now, the earth has been in an interglacial period for more than 11,000 years. It is predicted that in another 1,000 years the earth will have reached its peak temperatures of the interglacial period. So, from then on, the temperatures will be begin to decrease once again. Finally another piece of evidence shows that our most reliable sources of temperature data show no global warming trend. All of these are common arguments for evidence against global warming.

In my opinion, there is not question about whether or not too much carbon dioxide is being emitted into the atmosphere because there is. It is important for all humans to live in a clean environment so that it is safe and healthy to live in. So, on this matter, I believe that people should be doing all they can to reduce their carbon footprint. Now, whether or not global warming exists is another thing to talk about. With all of the carbon dioxide the ozone layer is becoming thicker and therefore warming the earth. However, I don’t think that this is this only reason why temperatures have been rising. I agree that at the time of this interglacial period, we are coming to the peak of the time period and this could be another factor that explains the higher temperatures. So to wrap up, I think that global warming is occurring, but the reason that shows carbon dioxide is the only reason temperatures have been rising isn’t the only thing is causing these changes.
