According to the dictionary’s definition of abortion, it is the termination of a human pregnancy before it can survive independently. Abortion is a topic that is greatly debated by women because either they support the Pro-Life movement or the Pro-Choice movement. There is a major difference between what these two movements advocate for; Pro-Life opposes abortion and euthanasia while Pro-Choice advocates for legal abortion. Although this topic is greatly debated and discussed, no matter the situation, women should not have the right to kill a human being, even if it is as small as the palm of our hand, because it is alive and has as much value and right to live.
In today's time, one of the biggest controversial arguments is if should Abortions should be legal or illegal? This argument has divided Americans along partisan, ideological and religious lines. According to the latest Pew Research Center political survey, “58% majority of Americans say abortion should be legal in all or most cases, while 37% think abortion should be illegal in all or most cases.” Abortion should be legal but it should be to a certain extence, which is the baby can’t be older than 8 weeks old.
According to Wikipedia, the Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113, was a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States protects a pregnant woman's liberty to choose to have an abortion without excessive government restriction. The government allowing and giving authority to women to abort without restrictions is not tolerable because even if the women weren’t raped and simply had sex just for pleasure for their body, knowing the risks, they could just kill the baby. After all, they are not ready to raise a child and that they are too young but they should have said the same thing about having sex because they are still young.
Each year in the United States, an estimated 1.1 million abortions are performed. According to the Guttmacher Institute, that adds up to almost 55 million abortions since 1973 when abortion was legalized. There always seems to be an excuse on why they should or have to abort, but without proper, solid reasoning, abortion is the careless disposal of a life that no one has the right to take. The debates between Pro-Life and Pro-Choice advocates are surrounded by reasons or excuses why women abort like what if the woman was raped, what if the mother would die in childbirth, what if it is an incest situation, what if they are too young and immature, or what if they didn’t have enough money to support the baby. Research done by the Operation Rescue group shows that out of the 1.1 million abortions performed yearly, less than 1% of them are due to rape or incest.
This small percentage of women is the only thing backing up the reasons or excuses that so many Pro-Choice advocates argue that we, Pro-Life members, don’t take into consideration the situation each woman has and should have the right to abort to not carry that burden in their whom. Pro-Choice advocates don’t really have much to argue because only 1% of all the women that abort are due to being raped or if there are risks of death at childbirth.
Overall in the United States alone, 1.058 abortions occur per year, 2,899 per day, 120 per hour, 2 per minute, and 1 abortion every 30 seconds by surgical and medical abortions (“American Life League”). Another 14 million abortions occur each year by chemical abortions in the United States (“American Life League”). Countless numbers of children were killed by their own mothers and were unable to live a life. Many women use excuses as they don’t have enough money or maturity to raise a child and try to convince themselves that aborting that baby will save it from suffering. Instead of trying to convince themselves to do something they already have a bad feeling about, they should stand up for their child and do what they know is right. There are so many other options other than abortion that women do not realize. Women should not have the right to kill a human being that has no fault no matter the situation, even if it is as small as the palm of our hand because it is alive and has as much value and right to live and we as women shouldn’t dispose of the child God gave us to guide, educate, and protect.
