Adam Smith was born in 1723 in Kirkcaldy, Scotland. He studied moral philosophy at the University of Glasgow and at Balliol College, Oxford. After a brief stint as a professor at the University of Glasgow, he spent ten years traveling in Europe, during which time he wrote The Theory of Moral Sentiments.nIn 1776, Smith published his most famous work, An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations. In it, he argued that the free market, if left to its own devices, would produce more wealth and better outcomes for society than any other economic system.nSmith’s ideas about the free market and economic self-interest were controversial in his own time, but they have had a profound impact on the development of modern capitalism.
Adam Smith was a Scottish philosopher and economist who is best known for his book “The Wealth of Nations.” In this book, Smith argued that the free market is the most efficient way to allocate resources and that government intervention in the economy should be limited.
