With the gradually developing of communication, some technologies like 2G, 3G which was spread over the world, begin to withdraw from the historical stage. And 4G is emerging and suddenly occupying the lead stage over the world. Compared to the previous technologies, it is faster and more reliable on all aspects of the life and production. People can obtain much more excellent and efficient communication experience benefited from increasingly maturity and development of related technology in communication systems, which reach a high performance level in whatever audio, video or high rate data transmission.
However, people’s pursuit of technological innovation is endless, Although 4G can fulfill the most of the requirement from large part of the reality society, but for some rarely industry or domain, it currently condition is not enough to achieve the prospective optimal performance, the most typical implement is the automatic driving, it is not only need the complex software and hardware to accomplish it, also need the excellent network as its backup. Expect that, there are tons of existed technologies will get a greatly improvement, even a revolutionary change.
5G, which full name is fifth generation of cellular mobile communications. 5G is an extension of 4G that is currently being advanced. Although the 5G standard has not yet defined a specification, many communication experts believe that 5G is completely different from 4G. It is not only a technical update, but also a new technology. According to the mobile communication technology, which is about a new generation cycle every 10 years, the fifth generation mobile communication technology will be officially commercialized around 2020. 5G performance targets include high data rates, reduced latency, energy savings, reduced cost, higher system capacity and a large number of devices connection. A lot of people think that the 4G technology had meet the most the requirement for the daily routine, because it is enough for people just use it for normally communication or simple things. But the biggest difference between 5G and 4G is not just speed improvement. There are some things more important compare to just the speed. Picture below is the 8 specification for the 5G.
5G technology is driven by 8 specification requirementsFrom above we can know, the speed improvement is just only one aspect, there are also other great advantage, such like low latency, greater bandwidth and great reduction in network usage etc.
5G technology once implemented, aims at providing high speed wireless networks with very low or negligible latency of around a millisecond. Using the radio millimeter waves will also increase the bandwidth by huge rates in comparison with the LTE bands. 5G will offer more advantages such as better cell coverage, less power consumption, maximum data rates etc. due to the small cell concept used. 5G unlike other technologies won’t be monolithic. It will be built around various technologies such as 2G, 3G, 4G, LTE, LTE-A, Wi-Fi, M2M (Machine to machine) and more; hence with a support for a variety of applications. All the sectors, education, transport, entertainment, healthcare, IOT etc. will be revolutionized. Let’s look at these use cases of 5G in more detail.
5G as a service will first kick off with an increased mobile broadband. This 5G application promises better uniform rates with low latency and lower prices per bit as well. It will try to provide download speeds up to 10 to 20 GBPS which is almost an equal measure of fiber optic wireless connectivity. The download speeds for mobiles will be so much faster, the stream buffering for videos will be enhanced along with this. The resolutions of videos will be better than ever and hence services such as HD TV, virtual reality, 360 degree video streaming etc. will be able to give the users an improved quality of experience and smart content delivery. This will require the machine type communications to be ultra-reliable.
High definition video streaming has become very common. It is something people use more than 55 percent of their mobile phones and internet for according to a recent study in 2015. This trend is only bound to increase in the near future. 5G will play a significant role in this by offering high definition video streaming in few seconds with crystal clear sound quality. It’s possible due to the capability of the technology to process 120 frames per second. Live event streaming (such as sport matches, concerts etc. ) will be achieved using a wireless network with high definition. HD TV channels will be available for usage on mobile phones without interruptions. Not just this, but the virtual reality and augmented reality applications will reach a whole new level after the implementation of 5G. It will provide the users amazing experience with high resolution video quality. The gaming sector will also see a change as the gaming experience with 5G’s high speed network will be better.
5G will provide a considerable increase in the capacity, flexibility and functionality of cloud services. Cloud RAN (also known as Centralized RAN) has a centralized data center where the optimization, processing, configuration and adaptation of the network is done. 5G will give an efficient way to centralize the computational resources for C-RAN. Since cloud architectures are agile, upgrades in the network are not a complex task. And going from 4G to 5G in cloud will elevate the overall capacity and capability across the network. This shifting will offer a flexible allocation and reallocation of resources depending on the demand. 5G wireless technology will enable to run powerful tasks with much higher processing capacity and also a secure access to the enterprise applications and cloud storage.
IOT is one of the areas which have expanded a lot in the past few years. Due to this the number of devices connected to the internet has grown to more than a billion. Future IOT implementations (such as fully automated homes, augmented vehicular communications for autonomous driving etc. ) require greater speeds of connectivity and transfer of data in real time amongst devices. Not just the transfer but even the collection and processing of this data should be done in real time. Due to the flexibility, low cost and unused spectrum availability IOT can benefit from 5G networks in different areas like
