Advancement of modern technology in the past centuries has led to the transition of medicine from a caring and service-oriented model to a curative-oriented model. Consequently, advanced technology has contributed to phenomenal advancement in healthcare, and hence giving the ability of prolonged life. Nonetheless, psychiatrists and nurse practitioners have made attempts to balance their caring and services-oriented model with spiritual aspects of healthcare. Therefore, this paper seeks to explore various reasons for the resurgence of interest in the religious aspects of healthcare.
It’s essential for Marta to attend the church camp and to reconnect with her religion. The church camp will be beneficial especially in her current situation as it will provide a platform whereby she can be able to engage in various religious activities that will be helpful in social support, and thus helping her cope with depression. Her religion will help her utilize their principles, norms, and beliefs to cope with the grief, pain, and life stresses. This is because faith brings about a more positive outlook of an individual, and consequently a better and quality life regardless a situation a person is in.
Additionally, the other reason as to why Marta wants to reconnect with her religion is to improve her coping ability and subsequently to enhance her recovery. Most people believe that a firm commitment of an individual to his/her religious affiliations tends to contribute and to improve their recovery from depression, pain, illness. This is because religious activities are crucial elements in the recovery process as their beliefs help patients comply better with treatment follow-ups and thus improving their physical functioning. Therefore, reconnecting with her religion will help Marta improve her self-esteem, lower anxiety, and health worries, thus improving the recovery process.
In conclusion, I don’t believe Marta’s attendance at church camp will pose a problem to a counselling session, but rather enhance the efficiency of the counseling sessions. Marta’s presence at the church camp will help her learn specific spiritual practices that will be vital in as far as improving the health outcomes. For instance, the principles, norms, and beliefs of Marta’s religion will help her learn how to develop her self-esteem, lower anxiety and health worries, thus improving the recovery process.
Moreover, the church camp will provide a platform whereby she can engage in various religious activities that are helpful in social support, and thus help her cope with depression.
