Do you always use the web? Do you enjoy using it? If your answer is yes then, do you know how it was made? People use the web a lot for personal and professional use. Currently, the world is living in the golden years of technology where everything can be seen and can be done on the web. When Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web for easy information-sharing between scientists in universities and institutes around the world, it was only a plain white background with texts and hyperlinks. Since then, it became Web 1.0; the very first generation of cyberspace. After Web 1.0, it has grown and became the web that we know of and use as of this day, Web 2.0. This generation of the web has helped in a lot of aspects through its apps and websites. With the innovations of technology throughout the years, the World Wide Web has changed and evolved to be more accessible, interactive, and vaster than ever before.

The web has become more accessible as the developers have focused more on the perspective of the users. The web was designed and built to assist and to provide equal access to all users including the disabled. A user experiencing difficulty in reading can use the text-to-speech conversion as assistance. In addition, a user with poor eyesight can easily read a text by zooming in. Moreover, a user with a motor disability can make use of keyboard shortcuts as an alternative for the mouse. These are just some examples of the accessibility features that can be used. The web can also be accessed easily at any given time when accompanied by resources like a phone, tablet, or computer. With just one click or touch, one can easily search up information. For example, if one suddenly thinks of a question, that person can just input the question on the search engine and countless websites are shown that can provide information regarding the question. Also, one of the most important accessibility is easy usage. A user should be able to easily understand how certain websites work and where a certain piece of information may be located. A non complex web design and the information placement being well-organized help in this. Information can be easily pinpointed and users can easily understand how the website works.

Through programs like ShareIt, Skype and Google Docs, people across the world can communicate with others for professional or personal matters. It may be for research or for keeping connections with loved ones abroad, this generation of the web has helped people to achieve their own target while using the network. Professionals may use the web for sending files to researchers, giving advice to people with the same line of work or video-conferencing. Contrarily, people use the network to create content for the internet such as vlog or blog, listening to music, or talking to loved ones abroad. Humankind has different purposes or goals while using the web. Either way, the development of the web made way to make these things possible. When the web started, video calls or voice calls were not available. Web 1.0 was limited to hyperlinks and texts which was the only way to communicate before. The first web was more of published content rather than a user-created subject. Then, the second generation gave way to the availability to communicate online with others. Video calls, voice calls, and chat messages were emphasized in this period. Some websites, that allowed users to publish online, developed at this time were Facebook, WordPress, Twitter and many more of those that we use nowadays. Web 2.0 was what you can say, the age of online communication because of the apps and websites produced in this era highlighted the connection between users.

Web 2.0 also formed most of the web pages we use today. And because the network has a lot of webpages, it made cyberspace dangerous to be used by kids, professionals, and students because of the different types of sites that they can freely open. But some websites have security in them to distinguish who will access and if they allow themselves to view the page. A “Not Secure” warning can be seen in the address bar to alert a web user when visiting an unsecured page that does not provide a secure connection. The decision of a user to trust certain websites with their personal information can lead to harmful consequences such as theft of identification, access to credit card information, and the ability to obtain other private details. This characteristic of the web made crimes viable on the web harming its users despite its popularity and usefulness because some people abuse the use of it. Crimes or dangers like robbery, scamming and bullying can also be seen online. It is not impossible to create offenses like these in cyberspace seeing that it is open to all and there are a lot of web pages to discover. With these possible circumstances, it is up to the web users whether or not to take the possible risks when trusting sites with their private data. A web user should be mindful to look at the policies or the security of sites before giving personal information because these may not necessarily stay private.

The World Wide Web has changed and evolved throughout the years transforming into a more accessible, interactive and vast software application. As it continues to grow, the number of users also grows with it. This developed impactful changes that would be of good help to the progression of people’s daily lives. It has played and is constantly playing an important part in our lives as a student, as an employee, and as a citizen. It uses its potential to provide information and serve as a way to connect with people that it has become one of our needs. The web became a place where people can easily share information, it has changed the world. But, we should not deny the fact that this has negative effects because of its promising services. As the users entrust the web with their personal information, it should strengthen and protect its policy on security and privacy by developing effective solutions as it grows. The Net has grown rapidly and will continue to evolve along the way with new technological improvements that would ensure the web user’s benefit.
