The scientific method is categorized in parts such as identifying a problem, formulating a hypothesis, experimenting, analyzing data and the conclusion. There has been growing body evidence showing that umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells are more robust then mesenchymal stem cells from other sources.

Stems cells can be used to treat spinal cord injury by mesenchymal stem cells(MSC), most commonly harvested from bone marrow which can prevent activation of inflammatory responses that lead to cell death. MSCs are injected in a number of different ways in these trials including directly into the spinal cord or the lesion itself or just in the skin.
