According to Luthans, F., Luthans, K. W., & Luthans, B. C. (2015), "looking up to a leader that inspires and who encourages his followers to motivate "himself" and obtain a better performance that can carry out the tasks the way others can do". A good leader serves as their confidnce-building to inspire his followers to overcome the authenticity of the task. In achieving obligations as a leader, it is to build their confidence through their desired actions in order to influence his followers. A good leader should promote the proper attitude and morality of actions. On the contrary, causes of leadership failures are selfish, disloyalty to the followers, the unwillingness to provide and support, and the lack of ability to organize details. In addition, there are leaders that do not have a good character and has poor decision making. A weak leader probably indicated as an ineffective leader when he put his decisions and actions just for the good of himself, his own intentions and his own plans. Leadership is the awareness of how to influence good characteristics and contribute motivations. As a result of good leadership, this will benefit both the organization and own self. To lead and to influence people has a mutual relationship.

Charismatic Leadership

Travis Kalanick had met the definition of a charismatic leader based on what I've read, but his actions towards his followers were self-centered and insensitive. His charismatic behavior brings a negative effect on his personality because of the argumentation and lack of clarity. Kalanick performs a negative action towards his followers, the suspicious manners that he made led to an undesirable quality as a leader( Hartzell, S. 2013). The charismatic leadership has disadvantages resulted to poor management, over- reliance of the leader and end up trouble to self that the possible cause of wide chaos. A controversial video and negative publicity cause of his inappropriate actions led by him to be remarkable. This behavior puts Kalanick to poor management that misarticulate the desired goals. When the personality of a leader changes and they bring rough actions, followers tend to change their beliefs and vision. Because of selfish ambition, followers may put in harm situation, leadership is ineffective. Sometimes the lack of clarity of the leaders may lead to misunderstanding and usually a minor argument or disagreement.

Transformational Leadership

From the word transform itself, leaders are responsible mentoring his followers with a clear vision in mind, the productivity of the team, sanguinity and optimism to stand as a role model to all. This leadership embodies the value of the leader and the purpose of the follower. Reaching goals is the main challenge to innovate creativity, skills, and strengths. The transformational leadership is the one who mentoring and promoting good characteristics, behavior, genuine improvement and concern to his followers, and to inspire others as motivation to transform oneself to become a better individual. Travis Kalanick doesn't meet the definition of a transformational leader based on what I've read (Barine, A., & Minja, D. (2012). From my own understanding, Kalanick performs an unsympathetic behavior and does not promote encouragement, motivation. and growth, also he doesn't create an environment that full of respect, honesty and trust; and he performs emotional distress to the followers that eventually will be resulting to argument and misunderstanding. Transformational leadership is important to implement a strategy in the environment of the team. It empowers the growth and development of every individual to transform good morale, responsible to provide inspirational motivation and idealized behavior, and the collaboration of the team is also important to build an interactive environment to give every individual attention.

Transactional Leadership

Gautier, V. (2016), Transactional leadership deals between the reward and the punishment of the leader toward his followers. This promotes motivation to do tasks that will make them eager to do things. This style of leadership will promote satisfaction to the follower's action, whether they are good or not, this corresponds to a reward or a punishment. The transactional leadership will guide leaders to set rewards in order to motivate followers to overcome the desired outcome of the planned action. This is very effective in motivating followers to develop the productivity of the team. Rewards and penalties to the workers define them how effective followers they are. Punishments and penalties can be used as a suspension to the worker that does not follow the instructions given to them, but not necessarily to punish physical and rough emotional treatment. Travis Kalanick meets the definition of a transactional leader based on what I've read. Because of insufficient knowledge of the followers, Kalanick performs inappropriate behavior and criticizes followers, this substitutes as a punishment. His actions are not appropriate and acceptable in giving punishment toward his followers' actions. Everyone deserves respect and acceptance of the action that has been performed. In line with this, wise implementation of transactional leadership will overcome clear vision and productivity.

Kalanick's behavior is not acceptable because of the absence of his good attitude. Those situations should not happen again. With regards to his actions, a leader should maintain self-respect in order to have sympathy for his followers. Communicating with decent personality promotes peace and commitment towards the team, positive outcomes and attitude, a good sense of humor, and good leaders help their followers to grow good habit and attitude to make them more progressive. A leader that has a clear vision in mind encourages individual and the environment of the team where all members of the group are respected and valued (Luthans, F., Luthans, K. W., & Luthans, B. C. (2015). Kalanick should change the way he interacts to his followers both leadership styles and his rough behavior. A leader that provides an action that does not harm any of his followers will be much appreciated rather than being insensitive. The greatest leader is characterized as being kind to everyone, respectful as and courteous towards other members of the team. Also, Kalanick as a leader, should avoid criticizing the individuality of the followers, develops a good mental attitude that will serve as a commitment to everyone. Best leaders focused on the strengths and weaknesses of the team and will manage to help those who are left behind. Interactive leaders inspire a follower, not just through communicating, but also in his actions. Kalanick should practice embracing the imperfection of his followers to manage failures and strategies to implement for the progress of the team.
