Death Race for Love Through the Story of Romeo and Juliet

Essay details

Please note! This essay has been submitted by a student.

The story of Romeo and Juliet is a love story with a tragic ending. In this essay we have to identify 2 ways that technology would have influenced Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. One way is how technology will influence the way people move around because they will have cars. Another thing technology will change is the way people communicate because they will also have phones. Lastly, technology can also change the pace of the story due to faster deaths due to firearms.

If Romeo and Juliet had technology, they would have less problems throughout their relationship. Technology can also change the pace of the story. For example, if they had technology such as cars instead of horses it would be easier to get around. Technology can change the pace of the story by having people being killed quicker. For example, “Gentile Mercutio put thy rapier up.” Act 3 Scene 1. This is important because Tybalt and Mercutio are fighting with swords which takes a while, however if they had technology they would’ve used guns to kill each other. If everyone had guns in the story instead of swords there would’ve been a lot more deaths in the story. More main characters would’ve died, creating a quicker ending.

If Romeo and Juliet had technology it would change their personality. Technology can change the character entirely. For example, “O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?” Act 2 Scene 2. This quote is important because it shows that Juliet is constantly thinking about Romeo. If they had technology they could use phones to contact each other when out of reach instead of traveling miles to see each other. Since Romeo got banished from Verona in the story, he wouldn’t have to sacrifice his life to see her again, he could just facetime her on his phone. Another example that technology would change the characters is that it can change communication. An example is, “What o'clock tomorrow shall I send to thee” Act 2 Scene 2. This is important because Juliet needed to send Romeo a messenger in the morning when they could just text or call each other instead of wasting so much time. Technology changes the characters personality or can change their communication.

Technology can change the way people communicate, transport, can change the plot of the story, can kill each other faster, and can also affect their personalities. These are important because they can affect the plot of the story and change everything. I want my reader to understand, so he or she can feel what the characters are feeling.
