Endangered species how we can preserve them. An endangered species is an animal or a plant that has very few of its kind left and is almost extinct. Thousands of species are included in this category (Pragati, Ghosh, n. d. ). Animals need clean air, food, water, and shelter. Humans are cutting down animals? homes such as trees that possums, squirrels, birds, and racoons live in to make human homes.
Many species have been hunted to the point of extinction for their fur, hides, feathers or tusks. These include thebig cats, alligators, kimonos, quetzal birds, eastern grey kangaroos, egrets, and birds of paradise (Pragati, Ghosh, n. d. ). There are 50,000 elephants killed every year, only about 3,000 tigers remain in the wild, and rhinos are killed every day(DP World London Gateway, 2016). The furs, hides, feather, and tusks of these animals are taken to sell on the market.
There are many federal state and local laws that have been enacted to protect endangered species such as The Lacy act which was passed by Congress in 1900 induced by the extinction of the Carrier pigeon (University of Florida Forest Stewardship, 2015). In 1966 Congress passed the Endangered Species Preservation Law (University of Florida Forest Stewardship, 2015). In 1973 the endangered wildlife act was passed in the state of Georgia to protect endangered species (Public policy in Georgia, July 2016).
Many people and groups have taken measures to stop the killing of endangered species. Whether the species were killed deliberately, or by accident (in an oil spill) these groups are trying to stop the killing. If people are caught killing endangered species, they could be taken to jail or fined. We should try to save these animals because it helps both animals and humans in the long run.
In conclusion, it can be said that endangered species can be as big as a blue whale or as small as a tiny little ant (Pragati, Ghosh, n. d. ). The responsibility of saving them is on us. There are a lot of animals extinct because of human behavior an only a fourth of extinct species have died because of natural causes (Pragati, Ghosh, n. d. ). Everybody has to come to together to save these animals and our environment, in order to, save us in the future.
