Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is an excellent movie. It has already received many reviews from popular critics such as Rotten Tomatoes. This movie and the Harry Potter series did a great job in incorporating ideas of the “wizardry world” to both movies, however there are differences in how the main characters Harry Potter and Newt Scamander act within it. Throughout the movie there are problems the characters face and questions have arised to if they actually solved the issues at hand.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is gained positive attention from reputable critics. According to Rotten Tomatoes, 74% of the 247 people who reviewed this movie gave it a positive rating. This is significant because it shows how many top critics enjoy the movie. Peter Rainer, a top critic from the Christian Science Monitor, rated the movie with a B+ “Rowling has a voluminous imagination and Yates keeps things humming along, although, as was also true of many Potter movies, there is often too much of a good thing.” Rainer’s insight of the movie informs people that the movie still contains the Harry Potter feel, however it begins to feel slightly repetitive. These reviews and ratings of the movie allow fans to receive a general understanding of the movie before seeing it.

In both movies Harry and Newt are told to keep magic a secret from regular human beings, also known as “nomag’s” or “muggles”. Harry did an excellent job at keeping it a secret, however Newt was the exact opposite. Throughout the film, he would cause big upsets from his use of magic within New York City. In the beginning, when he was searching for his creature inside of a bank, he drew attention to the “wizard world” when he left his creatures egg with a “nomag”, teleported in front of “muggles”, and used his wand to stun a guard, shortly after breaking into the bank’s vault. On a separate occasion, while looking for the same creature, he exposed magic to several police officers. He saw his same creature inside of a jewelry store and teleported inside. Newt began to wrestle with the creature, this led to them tipping over a case full of necklaces. The case shattered the store’s window and sounded the alarm. Police arrived within 5 minutes, they pointed guns at Newt and told him he was under arrest. With quick thinking he used his magic to create a diversion and then teleported from the scene. This drastic difference between the movies and Newt’s reckless actions bring more excitement to the movie.

After watching the film, there are a few questions that have arised about the obliteration of the “nomag’s”. In the movie they had a creature fly into the sky, dropping a potion into the clouds which would rain down and erase all of the “muggle’s” memory. After this it seemed as if life in New York City has returned to normal, but questions about that did arise. For example, what happened to the “muggles” that were indoors the whole time it was raining? Also did the potion really work that well? At the end of the movie Queenie Goldstein and Jacob Kowalski seemed to recognize each other in Jacob‘s bakery, however they couldn’t quite think of how they knew each other. These are some of the many questions that the movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them leaves the audience with.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a great movie. It received excellent reviews from reputable critics. The way they decided to have Newt use magic carelessly added tons of suspense as to what would happen when he got caught. The movie also caused the audience to really wonder if all the muggles were brainwashed. This movie used many methods to keep viewers at the edge of their seats and entertained, which is why it became a top rated movie within a week of being released.
