GMO stands for the genetically modified organism which is the outcome of a laboratory procedure where genes from the DNA of one species are extracted and artificially forced into the genes of an unrelated plant or animal. The foreign genes may come from bacteria, viruses, insects, animals, or even humans.
GMO foods often contain Glyphosate, a harmful herbicide that is linked to cancer, kidney damage, and celiac disease. Glyphosate is the most used herbicide in the world that kills bugs as well as selectively kill the beneficial good bacteria that can create an overgrowth of negative gut bacteria in the gut creating harsh gases which can damage the walls of the intestines. Private research companies have found glyphosate residue in everything from honey to cereal to human breast milk. However, when this comes to market and people buy it unknowingly it’s organic or GMO. It might suit some humans and it might not suit some causing allergies. Some studies have linked GMOs to have resulted in Cancer, disruption of hormones, gut bacteria damage, and fertility issues.
Few studies suggest GMOs are less nutritious due to the faster growth of crops and poorer soil, other studies link them to organ damage, cancer, and hormonal shifts. A study where mice experimented with revealed an unhealthy difference in infertility, the weight of the kidney, cholesterol regulation, and metabolism of protein. If these can happen with the experimented mice, we must be aware of these are consumed then how badly these foods will affect our health.
Today, the most common GMO foods are corn, cotton, canola, soy, sugar beet, papaya from China or Hawaii, and some varieties of yellow squash.
Genetically modified products are banned in many places such as France, Germany, and other European countries that include Austria, Hungary, Greece, and Luxembourg. Poland has also tried to institute a ban, with backlash from the European Commission.
Due to genetically engineered technology, the food industry fails to provide proper nutritional labels. Though there was a debate which came to make it a law to print labels of nutritional values but the food industry in the US refused as no one would buy such a genetically modified food product knowingly what might occur with their health and there would be a huge loss of money and business of such GMO producers.
