Being raised in different economic classes can lead to deep thinking, deep questioning, even some fascination. What would happen if people from different classes started to interact? In the film, Good Will Hunting, there are three main characters that differentiate from each other, but still, end up forming a bond together. Will Hunting is an intelligent young male, with a troubled life that works as an MIT janitor. Dr. Gerald Lambeau is a mathematics professor at MIT, who is very intrigued by Will once he meets him. Dr. Sean Maguire, a psychology professor at Bunker Hill Community College. In this study we looked at three ologies; sociology the study of human interaction, anthropology the study of humankind, and psychology the study of the human mind. The objective was to create questions for the three ologies in relation to the three characters. In order to develop these questions, we had to determine what is a bad question to ask and what is a good question to ask. Some characteristics were considered when formulating these questions. Questions are not meant to summarise, they are meant for people to think. They get you to think far deeper than one normally would, and they allow you to relate various topics, with proper justification.
#1. Will Hunting Why might those of a higher economic class pressure Will to change his South Boston reputation of brotherhood loyalty? Why might Will intentionally suppress his grasp on such a vast amount of knowledge? Why might Will’s abusive past prevent him from trusting others in any kind of relationship?
#2. Dr. Sean Maguire Why might the South Boston culture affect the formalities in which Dr. Sean and Will take part in during their therapy sessions? Why might the painting of a lone man in a storm relate to Dr. Sean’s own subconscious, being very chaotic and unpredictable like a storm? Why might Dr. Sean’s past assist him in divulging Will’s reasoning behind his actions?
#3. Dr. Gerald Lambeau Why might Dr. Gerald’s essence of sophistication affect his perception of Will and his friends? Why might Dr. Gerald be perplexed yet intrigued by Will’s subconscious? Why might Dr. Gerald’s past with Dr. Sean interfere and hinder their relationship with Will?
