Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy parodies Government by using distractions. For example using a very outgoing and selfish president as a distraction from what really was going on. I’m the book Arthur claims that “His job is not to wield power but to draw attention away from it”(Adams pg 23). Arthur is saying that the president is no real president just a distraction. Which does well with distractions, which is why the earth was destroyed. The parody was most definitely effective because of it wasn’t the destroy of earth would have never actually happened. The government did go through with the plan because of the President with no real power.
Adam marks the absurdity of what we consider to be the most important in our life. For example, “” most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movement of small green piece of paper, which is odd because on of the whole it wasn’t the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy“(Adam pg 54). Adam is making a negative impact on humans themselves. He satires our weaknesses which are being greedy and impossible to satisfy. I think Adams is very correct with his assumptions. We are always greedy and one good never actually be completely satisfied. We all have things we wish were different or we wish we had more.
In my opinion writing this novel in scientific form was a good choice to get the point across. They used very different forms of satire to help everyone actually understand what is going on. Instead of making it all informational and no one getting a good understanding like you would ready this version. Writing it in a different genre wouldn’t have a bigger effect because I feel like the important points that they make in the novel wouldn’t be as well expressed as they are in scientific form.
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy also makes fun of religion. By relating the religion in terms of aliens in the novel. How aliens could either prove or disprove that religions are real and truthful about their beliefs. They also use aliens as a symbol for the creation of humanity. Using aliens as the answer the the theory of life. Also putting them as a symbol for religion.
The trailer uses a lot of satire for clever marketing. It is for people who are intrigued by making fun of the movie itself. Instead on watching a little bit of the actual movie you get to enjoy and laugh for a couple minutes which intrigues people to want to actually see the movie. The voice in the trailer is another thing instead of a boring narrator they use a deep voice which is usually used for things that are funny which also attracts people to want to watch the movie because who doesn’t want to watch something that’s going to make them laugh. If the trailer is making them laugh then what’s better is getting to actually watch the whole thing which is a smart sales pitch to intrigue customers.
