How Macbeths Character Flaws Turned Him into What He Had

Essay details

Please note! This essay has been submitted by a student.

Can you picture being in Macbeths shoes as a victim? What is a victim to you? His own character flaws turned him into what he had done and was continuing to do. Such as killing King Duncan in order to become king due to the witches giving Macbeth a prophecy of becoming king. However, Macbeth did this due to his wife's ambition and greed. She never hesitates to make him do things that she wants him to do. Macbeth is a victim.

Macbeth at the beginning was not as bad. Gradually, as the play went on, Macbeth was getting worse. Such as, Macbeth murdering. This was all done due to the witches letting Macbeth know that he will become king and Lady Macbeth wanting it so bad for Macbeth but as time went on, guilt and paranoia got the best of Macbeth and broke him down. Most of the murdering and violence were done in spite of orders from Lady Macbeth.

Lady Macbeth in this play has a tremendous role in the violence that is produced. She uses herself to drive Macbeth to kill Duncan. He wasn’t going to do it until Lady Macbeth kept pushing for him to do it and he finally let loose. Lady Macbeth overrides all of Macbeth's objections. She uses herself to manipulate Macbeth and make him do things he doesn’t want to. She also uses harsh words against him to make him feel low about himself. “First, as I am his kinsman and his subject, Strong both against the deed; then, as his host, Who should against his murderer shut the door, Not bear the knife myself.”  Macbeth even hires murderers to kill Banquo and his son Fleance. Going back into the play, Lady Macbeth even wishes to be unsexed and turns herself into a man due to Macbeth's cowardly ways. “Come, you spirits That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, And fill me from the crown to the toe, topful Of direst cruelty!” . Although they didn’t kill Fleance, Macbeth is concerned and worried while Fleance is still living due to the possibility of him become the king.

Macbeth in this play has a bit of jealousy towards Duncan. Duncan is a kind fellow and Macbeth is fond of him. Macbeth actually kills Duncan to accept the throne. Macbeth starts having horrible dreams and hallucinations caused by guilt and pressure. His mind is not free from fear, the witches prediction sticks with him Macbeth is so determined that Banquo should never share in his own hard-earned glory that he resolves to murder Banquo and his son, Fleance.

Don't get me wrong, Macbeth is a monster on the battlefield and knows how to get the job. “Showed like a rebel’s whore: but all’s too weak: For brave Macbeth--- well he deserves that name--- Disdaining fortune, with his brandished steel, Which smoked with bloody execution, Like valor’s minion carved out his passage Till he faced the slave.” Although, he is not so hot and faithful when taking the throne. Macbeth will become more ruthless in his quest to gain the title of King.

Macbeth is talking to a ghost in front of all of his guests at his royal feast and making them both look very ignorant and crazy. Which, Macbeth is going crazy due to the ghost being Banquo then Lady Macbeth tries to calm everything down but it isn't working. Banquo is coming to haunt them. Also, Lady Macbeth later starts sleepwalking and is acting very suspicious and asking for things that she shouldn’t.
