We often witness, one of key differences between true, quality leaders, and the rest – of – the – pack, is, whether they are ready, willing, able, and properly prepared to recognize viable options, objectively and introspectively determine, strengths and weaknesses, needs, goals, perceptions, and priorities, and proceed forward, in order to effectively, SEIZE the moment! After more than four decades of involvement in most areas of leadership, from identifying and qualifying the best candidates, to training, developing and consulting to thousands of actual, and/ or potential leaders, as well as serving as a leader, for a variety of different – size, groups and organizations, with different heritages, histories, and missions, I have come to realize, true leadership is often, complex, because not only does one need, a specific type of individual, but, also, one who is willing to overcome the restrictions and limitations of his comfort zone, and proceed forward, in the best possible manner. With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly examine, consider, review and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, some of the principal aspects, of this approach and behavior.

  1. Stronger; system; sustainable solutions: One must focus, primarily, on enhancing the group he represents, and constituents served, making them stronger, when his tenure is over, than he found them, originally! This must never be unplanned, and/ or, haphazard, but, rather organized, with the best system, to get it done! It must be understood, one’s path, must focus on the need, for relevant, sustainable solutions.
  2. Empathy; emphasis: Where would you place your emphasis, and why? Unless/ until, you realize, no one has all the answers, and you commit to effectively listening and learning, from every conversation and experience, you’ll be challenged, to become, the best leader, you might possibly be!
  3. Integrity; ideas; imagination; ideology: In order to be effective, others must believe in you, and this only happens, when one proceeds, with consistent, absolute integrity! Your ideas must be based on aligning with the ideology of the organization, and it is essential to proceed, with the imagination, and discipline, to consider viable options and alternatives, with an open – mind!
  4. Zeal; zero – based: While one’s zeal, is a necessity of motivating and inspiring others, to greater action, it must be based on reality and needs/ priorities! Only if a leader effectively uses his budget, as a guideline, will this be accomplished. When budgets are zero – based, groups get the most, bang – for – the – buck!
  5. Endurance; excellence: One must exhibit the persistence, and endurance, to proceed forward, when lesser individuals become disenchanted! This leads to true, relevant, excellence! You’ll never become a quality leader, unless you are ready, to effectively, SEIZE the moment! Will you be up to the task?
