Jamaica Kincaid is a writer from the Caribbean island of Antigua. She is best known for her novels and short stories that explore the themes of family, relationships, and womanhood.Kincaid was born in 1949 and raised in a small village on the island of Antigua. She left school at the age of 16 to work as a governess in England. After a few years, she returned to Antigua and began working as a journalist. In 1974, she moved to the United States to study photography at the New School for Social Research.Kincaid’s first novel, Annie John, was published in 1985. The book tells the story of a young girl growing up in Antigua. It was followed by Lucy (1990), a novel about a young woman’s coming of age in New York City. Kincaid’s most recent novel, See Now Then (2013), is set in the fictional town of Heron Bay, Vermont.
