Hello Claire, how are you? I’m sorry, I haven’t written to you in a while, I wanted to write to you about a letter composed by St Paul for a community in Rome, In a part of the letter Romans 12. 1-8. St Paul has written letters to communities, guiding and teaching ways we can give thanks to God. In these letters, he taught how little things can make a giant difference in the Christian community since the Romans have been mistreating each other and changed for the worse. He wanted them to have a change of mind and taught them a few things to do as a Christian community. These include going to church, showing kindness to one another, and forgiveness. I wanted to talk to you about the morals he talks about and how we can apply them to our everyday lives.
From this letter, I can tell that St Paul wanted to teach the community to be more humble, loving and more caring for one another. There are three important things said that stood out to me in his wonderful letter.
The first issue is when St Paul spoke about how everyone needs to be humble, and that the faith of God is equally in all of us. This is what he said: “Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you”. I believe that this quote tells us to not think too highly of ourselves. We get so caught up in comparing ourselves to others when we should actually be thinking about how unique, but similar everyone is. God didn’t create us because he needed us and he felt lonely. God created us with love and faith. The similarity that we have with each other is that God has faith in all of us, he trusts us to keep loving each other for eternity, but we are misusing the love he gave us and selfishly using it all on ourselves. Who would we be without love? The reason why we are still standing here to this day is because of the passion, love, and care we get from the people around us. Yes, it is important to love ourselves, but it is important to stay humble, for the people around you and for your own benefit. You can ask others to pray for you, to pray for the way we misuse the influence of God. We can try to apply humbleness in our everyday lives by comparing ourselves to others less and appreciating the talent and qualities of others more. It is okay to make mistakes because we are all only human.
In addition to this, the second message that Paul taught us is that: “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith” I find this quote interesting because Paul is teaching us how everybody is different. We shouldn’t be bothered by our differences, but instead, appreciate everyone for who they are. We are neglecting all the talents, gifts and traits that we were given. We should be proud of who we are, instead of hiding behind the false reality. You shouldn’t let an article of clothing define who you are. The people around us don’t define who you are, you do. You are your own unique self and you should be proud of that. God has created everyone to be different for a reason. Maybe you don’t know who you are yet, and that’s okay. In order to find yourself, you need to explore. You don’t only explore other people and their interests, but you need to find what you are good at, or what you are comfortable with. You need to trust and have faith in God like he has faith in us. Love yourself like God loves you. We can try to apply self-love in our everyday lives by improving your inner voice and overcoming the negative beliefs about yourself. Seek for love and acceptance instead of neglect and sorrow. Focus on the positives instead of the negatives.
Furthermore, there is one last message that Paul wrote about. This is what he said: “if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.” Here, Paul is taking things that we Christians should do every day and make them more extraordinary. We shouldn’t just encourage, give and lead without meaning it. What is the point of doing anything without passion, love, and care? It is important to do something while meaning it because it affects the person you are giving to in a positive way. You wouldn’t seem like one of society’s robots. He wants us to know that we should do even more for everyone. God has given us gifts that we should use. It is good to use these gifts, but we shouldn’t be using it to a big extent. We need to cherish and appreciate the gifts we were given. We can apply this to our lives by giving to the less fortunate, thinking about others feelings and being more humble in general.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I hope this letter helped you strengthen and deepen your understanding of love, happiness and humbleness. I hope you can take the things that have been said in this letter and use it in your everyday life. It was nice discussing St Paul with someone. Lastly I want to thank you, for being the best person you could ever be. May the spirit of God be with you.
