Today there is injustice in the world and there are a lot of people who fought och who continue to fight for human rights. But the one who inspires me and who has a deep impact on my life is Martin Luther King. One of history`s heroes and my ideal- in this Martin Luther King Jr biography.
King was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. He had a brother, Alfred, and a sister, Christine. Both his father and grandfather were ministers. His mother was a school teacher who taught him to read even before he started school. Today, Martin Luther King is an American hero. Because he was the most famous African American in the history of the USA who fight for the rights of African Americans, Americans celebrate him each year in January, the month in which he was born. At an early age, the king experienced racism, at that time society were segregated and people were divided into groups (white and black) there were separate school, restaurants, and sports places for white and black people and those events stayed with and eventually brought him to a life of activism. Martin Luther King saw how badly black people were treated and during the 1950s he became involved in the Civil Rights movement. In 1955 a black woman, Rosa Parks, was arrested because she refused to give his seat to a white person on a bus. This incident made many blacks angry. They protested and decided to boycott the city’s buses. Martin Luther King became the president of this boycott.
In 1963 Martin Luther King organized a big protest march in Washington D.C. Hundreds of thousands of Americans, black and white, took part. When he did his famous speech” I Have a Dream” he talked about his dream that one day his four children will live in a nation where they would be not judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their characteristics. This speech became one of history's most famous civil rights speeches. Through his activism and inspirational speeches, he played a pivotal role in ending the legal segregation of African-American citizens in the United States, as well as the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which states that every African American should be given his political rights, freedom, and equality. and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 which states that African Americans should be given the right to vote. Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act is considered one of the legislative achievements of the civil rights movement because it ended segregation in public places and banned discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
According to Martin Luther King Jr biography, in 1964 King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. King won the Nobel Peace Prize among several other honors. He continues to be remembered as one of the most influential and inspirational African-American leaders in history. King was the inspiration for others and he inspired the people through his nonviolent act. He protested and marched but without using violence. On April 4th, 1968, Dr. King was shot and killed. Although his life ended that day, the work that he had accomplished changed the nation. I choose this person because King worked hard to make people understand that not only blacks but all races should always be treated equally to white people. White terrorists started to Bomb King’s home and wanted to force him to give up his fight for equal rights. But King wasn’t afraid. He continued working for the rights of black people in America. He was a one-man army. He was the first black man to be named Time Man of the Year. He was arrested 29 times and was assaulted 4 times. He teaches me that we should never lose hope and we should fight for our rights. Nothing is impossible because he dreamed and he fulfilled it.
In conclusion. King will be remembered not only for his commitment to the cause of equality for African Americans but also for his profound speeches that moved so many. MLK Jr.’s words were spoken with the hope that the future for African Americans would be brighter and that they would finally be given the equality they deserved.
