Hector Hugh Munro, better known by his writer name Saki. Saki Is well known for his writing and is considered a master of short stories. He was born on the 18th of December 1870 and then died a gruesome death on the 14th of November 1916. He died at the age of 45 when he was sadly shot by a German sniper during world war 1. This short story is called “The Lumber Room,” it was publicized in 1914, and I believed it to be based on his own experiences as a child.

Children are getting too clever for adults. This might only be my opinion, but I believe it to be true. As generations, pass technology has become a big part of everyday life. The younger generations are very fond of all the new technology which makes their lives easier and gives them almost endless knowledge. A trained doctor could maybe name all the bones in the human body, but a quick google search and this information are made available to all. This might be a blessing or a curse, depending on your perspective. Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he eats for life. The Lumber Room depicts a young, clever, yet mischievous boy named Nicolas. He is not allowed to go to Jagborough with them, because he refused to eat his bread and milk. He said that there was a frog in his bread and milk, which he himself had put there. His main goal is to gain access to the before-mentioned Lumber Room. He seeks to outwit his aunt, and he is successful in doing so. He opens the door to the Lumber Room and unlocks the hidden treasures and curiosities within.

The story is chronological, which means that the story is told without any time skips. The story is told in media res, which means that the story begins in the middle of an event. It also introduces us to the cast, Nicolas, his aunt, and his cousin. The main character of the story is Nicolas, as the protagonist of the story he helps propel the story forward. He must face all the obstacles that come his way. Meanwhile, the aunt fills the role of the antagonist, the main obstacle which stands between Nicolas and the lumber-room. The aunt is what you would call the “bad guy.”

The year is not mentioned in the story, but I believe it takes place in the early 1900s. This is due to the Victorian language used and the fact that there were no electronics mentioned. They are physically placed in a town. I believe that their household I very religious because of the choices of words. They use disgrace, depravity, and sin, these are all related to religion.

Even when the aunt is so tyrannical and is a Christian extremist, it seems to not have affected Nicolas much. Nicolas is still full of imagination and curiosity. Even when he is punished, he finds a way to make the most of it and embarks on a quest to enter the Lumber room filled to the brim with adventures. The painting of the hunter and the wolfs. The painting really fascinates Nicolas and he uses his imagination to tell a story through it.

I believe that children have the right to use their imagination freely and I should not be suppressed by any means. They should have the right to speak freely as well, imagination is the key to all problems. I nobody was allowed to think for themselves we would be stuck with the same problems forever.
