On my 13th birthday, my father presented me with a telescope. Aiming it upwards, we peered at the dark blemishes on our moon’s surface, observed one of Jupiter’s moons, and made out the fuzzy rings of Saturn. My dad and I share a passion for space. Looking beyond the confines of our tiny planet to understand distant stars, galaxies, and the universe remains a source of endless fascination for us. We discuss, we argue, and we dream about all that lies beyond our planetary neighborhood. Space is more to me than a science. It is a culmination of all that matters to the human race: adventure, hope, beauty, life, and faith. Looking beyond Earth is a universal and enduring curiosity. I find it vital for my spirit to continue to explore this unknown.
My name is Alex Taylor, and I am a sophomore at the Creighton University double majoring in Accounting and Business Intelligence and Analytics (BIA), Business Analytics Track, and double minoring in Mathematics and Spanish. It is with great enthusiasm that I submit my application for a business operations position at SpaceX. As a curious, analytical, and driven individual with a passion for the cosmos, I know my diverse skills and qualifications will make me an asset to the SpaceX internship team.
As you will see from the attached resume, I’ve built my skills participating in a variety of activities and serving in a number of roles. Both in high school and college, I have successfully managed the rigor of a demanding academic schedule with a multitude of extracurricular activities. I have developed solid interpersonal skills with a sound ability to communicate and interact effectively with people. Last summer, I was able to gain real-world experience interning for a wealth management firm, analyzing data, predicting patterns, and testing hypotheses. Conducting research within Creighton’s Finance Research Silo has helped me to become an intentional and deliberate investigator. And in my leadership role within my honors business group, I have demonstrated my ability to develop rapport with fellow students and faculty, and motivate our group to consistently meet deadlines and accomplish goals. My strong work ethic and energetic personality, in addition to my abilities to observe, to think, to theorize, and to plan make me a great fit for this position.
I love hard problems…the type that test my understanding. I’m disciplined. Intellectually curious. Data-driven. I love to be challenged by my colleagues. To work together with people I can really learn from. And collaborate to produce real-world results. I know SpaceX can offer me all this and more.
In closing, I hope to spend the summer working in a hands-on and innovative environment that encourages creation, discovery, and the investigation of complex problems.
