A work environment should be diversified, the most important part of diversity is to understand similarities and differences to understand each other and create a conflict-free work environment. Diversity strategies are difficult to implement in the workplace because of the attitude of the company. But some ways that can help the company to implement diversity adapting the organizational structure, communicating about the initiative continuously, involving the entire top management team, creating a formal project plan, and changing all HR initiatives to include diversity.

Workplace diversity is a term that describes the inclusion of people in the workplace regardless of their cultural differences such as gender, race, and sexuality. Rather than disregarding them, diverse workplaces utilize these differences to widen the range of experiences and skills among their employees. Economic status is as important an issue as is education. Various employees come from different economic backgrounds. Their views and manners may differ, along with their expectations and motivations in daily routine and overall purpose. Nevertheless, they have to work together. There are potential problems and differences in conduct, motivation, and initiative. Managers have to get to know their people and develop ways of using their differences for the benefit of the organization. The focus should be on the positive aspects of individuals, and on merging the best qualities people have to form effective teams.

An organization that promotes diversity shows its employees that they don’t have to worry about their ethnicity or cultural background for them to progress in that company. Only relevant things like competency and the knowledge of the work matter the most. Workplace Diversity does not only refer to those groups that have been discriminated against or that are different from the dominant or privileged groups, but to the mixture of differences, similarities, and tensions that can exist among the elements of a pluralistic mixture. Diverse employees bring a wealth of creativity, insights, and skills to their jobs; it is up to employers to recognize, cultivate, and value these contributions. Diversity is about setting a mindset of valuing the differences in people and recognizing the similarities, it is not only about achieving results. Once this way of thinking is established, the benefits of cultural diversity in the workplace tend to come naturally.

Discrimination occurs when a person is subject to unfair treatment, based upon a characteristic that is considered to be abnormal, in association with certain individuals or groups, lifestyle choices, or a personal circumstance that is not desired in the workplace. It’s illegal to discriminate against people because of their race, color, nationality or ethnic origin, gender, pregnancy, family responsibility, or marital status (single, separated, divorced, or living in a domestic partner relationship). In terms of economics, discrimination occurs when people with similar economic characteristics, experience different economic outcomes due to their race, sex, or other non-economic attributes. For instance, a black worker whose skills and experience are identical to those of a white worker but receives a much lower wage is a victim of discrimination. A country will not be operating efficiently if discrimination still exists in society. If enough people have prejudices against certain racial groups or anyone with any particular characteristic, the market will respond to those preferences.

-Racial Discrimination-

Racial discrimination within the workplace may be a variety of discrimination that supported the race of a particular employee. though strictly prohibited by many federal laws, and laws altogether in 50 states and therefore the District of Columbia, racism continues to be a problem privately and in public corporations. It’s usually troublesome to notice compared to different types of discrimination, creating it even tougher to prosecute.

Instances of racial discrimination within the workplace are available in many forms. This includes:

-Treating a worker otherwise based on race

-Segregating employees of a certain race into particular jobs

-Making choices or distinctions based on race

-Failing to rent a professional individual based on race

One of the foremost common misconceptions of racial discrimination is the differentiation between colors. whereas race and color are largely used interchangeably in speech, the 2 don’t seem to be equivalent regarding discrimination. Color generally refers to one’s skin tone or complexion, whereas race is someone’s ethnic heritage. this can be a vital distinction to create as a result it makes an enormous difference in how a discrimination suit is filed and tried in court. Despite the difference in race and color, each is protected by state and native law. additionally, each form of discrimination will occur between folks of various races or different colors, still because of the same races or the same colors.

How to recognize racism within the Workplace

Recognizing racism within the workplace isn’t simple, whether or not throughout traditional workplace hours or during the hiring processes. the matter is that unless a supervisor or leader admits to discriminatory practices, it’s troublesome to prove why he or she disregarded an individual for a promotion or didn’t rent a person for employment. It’s also hard to file a claim of discrimination, particularly for interviewers, employers, or supervisors who don’t recognize that they’re acting in an exceedingly discriminatory manner.

While most prosecuted instances of racism within the workplace are obvious, like vocation and individual derogatory terms or telling racially insensitive jokes, at different times a lot of substantial proof is necessary. a number of the less obvious ways in which to inform racism include:

-A company hires somebody of another race who has lesser qualifications than the human

-Investigating fashionable hiring trends within the explicit trade

-Third-party clients show discomfort in handling persons of another race

This is by no means that associate thoroughgoing list, and particularly, people who feel they have been discriminated against should be able to show the negative job consequences of racism. a lot usually than not, this could need aggregation direct and evidence.

Examples of racism within the workplace:

Harassment: If a workfellow uses racial slurs or jokes, this can be harassment. However, the victim has to 1st indicate the insult and tell a supervisor. If the supervisor or company will nothing, it’s an example of discrimination.

Job Classification: several employers have many job tiers, however in cases of discrimination, an individual could battle a lot of responsibilities and tasks while not having a raise in pay or job classification.

Firing: Discrimination could occur once a corporation announces layoffs in an exceedingly sure department, and though a minority gets discharged, different workers of a special race with lesser seniority or skills keep their job.

Pay: this could go hand in hand with classification, but also with new hires. an example may well be a minority who works up to a footing, however, a worker of a special race with a lesser degree makes a lot of. an individual of an explicit race can also notice that a brand new rent of a special race makes quite he or she will, despite this employee having seniority.

Promotion: If an employee has shown his or her commitment to a corporation by manufacturing stellar work, receiving top-notch reviews, and even garnering awards, that person is a quality to the corporate. However, if this same person applies for a promotion but gets unmarked once more and again in favor of less-qualified people of a special race, this might represent racism.

Race Discrimination is prohibited by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Any person who is competent to discharge a particular duty could not be debarred and not employed for the job, based on the race of the person. A person who feels that discrimination is done against him/her, based on race, could approach a commission against discrimination, in the respective state and file a complaint. Discrimination is a major issue that we have to deal with whether we like it or not. Exclusions and rejection are key ingredients of discrimination. They occur when people do not appreciate diversity or differences. But, we can’t just let this matter slip away and give up on change. Discrimination should not happen in our society. We are one people and no one is more human than the other.

Therefore, I believe that government intervention in the workplace is important to stop discrimination. Racial discrimination in the workplace should not happen in our society. If you think you have been treated unfairly or have been discriminated against because of your age, gender, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or disability, now there’s a wide range of legislation, information, and contacts to help you understand and enforce your rights.
