Who is Roger Federer?

Roger Federer was born on 8th August 1981, Basel, Switzerland and is currently ranked No. 2 in mens single tennis. Federer has won a dazzling 20 Grand Slam titles- the most by any male tennis player in history. Federer is one of the oldest competitors on the court this is due to his versatile style of play which has prevented him from serious injuries and allows him to play for more years in the future.

Personal Life:

Federer is married to a former tennis player Miroslava “Mirka”Federer, whom Roger met when both were competing for Switzerland at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in which both had a very vibrant attraction to each other later in 2009 they got married where they invited only their close friends and family. In the same year they both were gifted with identical twin girls and in 2014 they were also gifted with identical twin boys this time around. Other than Federer being friends with other tennis player he also claimed that he had a childhood friend named Marco Chiudinell his old fellow tennis buddy.

Historic Career Highlights:

Federer’s main achievement as a junior player was due to his performance in Wimbledon 1998 where he claimed both mens singles and mens double titles. The year of 1998 was a special one to him where he also clinched the No. 1 junior world ranking. He was motivated at an very early age to enter mens tennis where he quickly reached in the top 100 within a year(1999). He was moving up the ranking at a quick rate where he upset many seeded and experienced players. From here Federer consistently maintained his consistent elegant style of play clinching many titles, tournament, records and also got a chance to play with his idols: Stefan Edberg, Boris Becker and Pete Sampras who he beat. Major Injury and Comeback:

One of the most elegant players in mens tennis is definitely Roger Federer who plays with such style that he has only got a knee injury so far in his 30 years of tennis career. Federer lost in four sets to Novak Djokovic at the 2016 Australian Open semifinal. The next day he felt pain in his Knee and had to go through arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus on his left knee. He was scared upon the operation and wasn’t sure about the rest of his tennis career, but when he woke up he realised he has movement in his leg again, he slowly built his leg strength from crutches to walking to running to jumping to sprinting and to eventually tennis. From here he made a comeback in 2017 grabbing the Australian Open, Wimbledon(grand slam) and also obtaining the No.1 ranking.

Philanthropy:

In 2003, Roger Federer established the Roger Federer Foundation that support education and is centred in Switzerland and regions of South Africa. The foundation allows the children to access resources that prompt education and extra curricular activities for those affected by poverty.
