A tragic hero is a type of characters in a tragedy, and is usually the protagonist. Tragic heroes have heroic traits that earn them the sympathy of the audience, but also have flaws or make mistakes which ultimately lead to their own downfall. In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is a tragic hero. I believe that Romeo, is, is the tragic hero because Romeo does numerous good things, however numerous bad things, as well. For instance, he is a Montague and he weds Juliet, who is a Capulet. This event is precluded, so Romeo is awful. Be that as it may, Romeo does all that he can to keep Juliet upbeat and dangers his life for her, which makes him great. Romeo is more a man of sovereignty since he is Montague’s child.

To begin with, he attempts to forestall the second battle among Mercutio and Tybalt,“Draw, Benvolio; beat down their weapons. Gentlemen, for shame, forbear this outrage! Tybalt, Mercutio, the prince expressly hath Forbidden bandying in Verona streets: (Romeo steps between them.) Hold, Tybalt! Good Mercutio!” This is found in lines 86-90. He tried to be a good man and stop the quarrel. He tried to seperate them by getting in between them. It said, “ Hold, Tybalt! Good Mercutio!” This shows his act of kindness. He intentionally wanted peace with Tybalt, so he could love Juliet in peace.

Furthermore, Romeo is the tragic hero because at the point when at first extraordinary euphoria and joy are conveyed to his life. The principal extraordinary euphoria (which turned into a cataclysm when he was banished from Mantua) that comes to pass for Romeo comes when he goes to the Capulet mansion after the disguise and Juliet broadcasts her adoration for him. Romeo proposes to Juliet and she acknowledges, in this way conveying extraordinary euphoria and bliss to them both. The second incredible happiness for Romeo comes when Juliet and he are covertly hitched by Father Lawrence. Romeo feels a feeling of satisfaction and has never been more joyful in his life. These snapshots of celebration quickly disintegrated into catastrophes on account of ensuing advancements. It says, “ Ah, Juliet, if the measure of the joy Be heap’d like mine and that thy skill be more To blazon it, then sweeten with thy breath This neighbor air, and let rich music’s tongue Unfold the imagined happiness that both Receive in either by this dear encounter.”

Last, but not least Romeo’s tragic flaw is that he does not think before he does something. He rushed to kill himself as soon as he believed that Juliet was dead. ”For I ne’er observed genuine excellence till this night. ” Said by Romeo in Act I, Scene V, in Line 52. The gathering of people can rapidly recognize Romeo’s imperfection of beginning to look all starry eyed at too rapidly and profoundly when he overlooks his affections for Rosaline and focuses on Juliet. Juliet too understands that Romeo’s adoration for her was too quick when she stated: ”It is excessively ill-advised; also undvis’d, excessively unexpected.  Juliet’s lamentable blemish is that she is excessively faithful to Romeo. When she awakens she sees that Romeo has harmed himself, so she murders herself with his blade. ” I will kiss thy lips, haply some toxic substance yet doth hold tight them to me kick the bucket with a remedial. ” Said by Juliet in Act IV, Scene III, in Line 165-167. Most lamentable imperfections are typically the reason for a characters defeat. Romeo’s terrible defect was reason for his destruction.

As you can see, Romeo is the tragic hero in this love story. He risked everything to save his relationship and his loved ones. He put in way more effort than Juliet. Also Romeo killed himself not knowing Juliet was alive. He wanted to be with her spiritually. Now thats love of Romeo and Juliet  on another level.
