Summary Question 1: This articles captivates the reader on the demoralizing issue of child abuse with many unknown facts and statistics that most people would be surprised to learn. The article deducts that the two most reasonable explanations for why most aren’t informed of this issue is because many people don’t believe it is common or right to harm one’s own child, and child abuse is mostly kept under wraps so much of the knowledge is not shared to the general population. “Child Abuse in the United States is continuing to increase” as many people aren’t putting a halt to this issue due to their lack of knowledge on the subject. Usefulness
Question 1: It is important to understand when viewing statistics to not just look at the numbers but to realize how detrimental these statistics are as every number represents a human/child life. “Five children die everyday as a result of child abuse. More than three out of four are under the age of four. ” which is an extensive number as there should be no children coming to their demise from child abuse. Without action and only having this knowledge of this issue will not bring these numbers down. The only way to fight this epidemic is to start becoming more aware of the signs in families and report any suspicious behavior. Many people don’t think this issue happens in their area but that may be false so looking at abusive behavior is very important. To understand how increased child abuse had become an issue comes from generations of continued abuse as a child. Many reports show how “abused and neglected children will later abuse their own children” as they think that it is okay for them to do it themselves as the abuse had happened to them as a child which continues the tragic cycle of trauma. Without consciousness of this behavior, the perpetrators will continue to abuse the victim’s without consequences to their actions.
