Zeus sends a statement to Poseidon saying that the master bolt must be returned to Mount Olympus by the summer solstice, or else he will declare war upon Poseidon. So Percy sets out on a quest to prove his father’s innocence by finding the master bold, which is suspected to be in Hades’s possession,in the Underworld. Percy was not going alone tho his friends glover and Annabeth were going along with Percy . The three takes a bus, a train, a truck, and a taxi cab to make their way across America, from New York to Los Angeles, where the gates of the Underworld are supposed to be located. They have many run in’s with monsters along the way. Battling against monsters such as Medusa. Another huge problem they run into a casino where they were almost tricked into staying fit a long time, until they came to their sense.

Upon arriving to the underworld , Percy finds that Hades in fact does not have Zeus’s master bolt, and he himself is missing his own master weapon: the helm of darkness. Out of frustration Hades accuses Percy of stealing both the master bolt and the helm of darkness. Hades claims that Poseidon had told his son Percy to steal both the weapons. Hades claimed that posiden was power hungry. To make matters worse, zeuses’s master bolt magically appears in Percy’s backpack while he was chatting with hades.

After escaping Hades, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover came across Ares, who was the god of war , on the Santa Monica beach. After Percy asked ares some questions, he found out that area stole the helm from the original thief (who shall be nameless for now). Ares was interested by the idea of starting one of the biggest wars of all time between the Big Three powerful gods: Hades, Zeus, and Poseidon. Percy was not going to let that happen, so they got into a physical altercation, Percy came on top and took back the helm. Ares got frustrated and put a curse on Percy.

Percy gives hades back the helm of darkness and took a plane to New York City where he finds Mount Olympus on the 600th floor of the Empire State Building. Percy meets Poseidon, his father, and Zeus for the very first time and explains to them everything that he found out as well as who he suspects. He tells them that he believes Kronos, king of the Titans who was the ruler in the age before the Greek gods, is getting ready to declare war on the Olympians (the Greek gods and goddesses). Percy had been having strange dreams about Kronos in which Kronos speaks to him. Zeus does not believe a word Percy says. Poseidon on the other hand was very proud of Percy and that he must make a choice when he goes home to his mom’s apartment in Queens, NY.

As the summer came to an end Percy had a great time living the life of a hero at the half blood camp. He has a hard time making a decision about whether he will stay at Camp Half-Blood for years, or whether he will go home and live with his mom in Queens.

On the very last day of camp, Percy is called into the woods by his friend, Luke. Luke admits to Percy that he was the original thief of Zeus’s master bolt and hades helm of darkness. He tells Percy that he serves Kronos and that Kronos is planning to defeat the Olympians and get rid of them once and for all. Luke then vanishes, leaving a seriously deadly scorpion sting on Percy. Percy nearly died from the scorpion bite, but is saved by wood nymphs who take him to safety. Percy’s teacher, Chiron, treats him back to health. Percy made the decision to go home and live with his mother for his seventh-grade year.
