American literature has influenced our society and education since the 17th century. One of the most influential writers in history was Mark Twain . He captured his boyhood adventures and humor. MarkTwain wrote many great novels including The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn.
Samuel Clemens is best known as Mark Twain born to John Marshall Clemens and Jane Lampton Clemens. Samuel was born on November 30th 1835 in Missouri, Florida.Clemens was born 2 months prematurely and was in bad condition for the first 10 months of his life. He died onApril 21st, 1910 at the age of 74. At the age of 6 he and his family moved to Hannaibal, Missouri. Mark TWain grew up with a very large family with four brothers and two sisters. In his youth he committed a various amount of domestic crimes. In the summer he played with slaves in the enslaved quarters listening to their stories and songs.At the age of 12 his father passed and he had to stop going to school to get a job to help bring in an income to help support his family. He became a printer’s apprentice for the Missouri courier. About three years later his older brother s Orion bought the Hannibal Journal, and he started working for Orion as a typesetter. He would sometimes help with articles and Sketches. At the age of 21 he lived up to his dream by piloting steamboats but that was shortly ended by the Civil War. Twain then got onto a steamboat and heard to Nevada and California to go find gold in the gold rush he lived there for about 5 years. Californa and Nevada didn’t go well for Twain so he went on the moved onto his next job and began working around a newspaper office, he reported for the Virginia City Territorial Enterprise. He reported news stories, editorials and even sketched as he did for his brother. At this time he started going by his pen name Mark Twain. In 1867 he published his first novel The Innocents Aboard which then became a nationwide bestseller. In the next few years, he met and married Olivia Langdon. They then settled in Buffalo, Kansas and had their 4 children. TWain continued to write his novels and later died April 21st of 1910.
Mark Twain often wrote about current issues of his time. Topics like slavery, racism, and religion. Living in Hannibal was such a great time for Twain. He had such a great ability to observe. As Mark Twain, he commemorates Hannibal as St. Petersburg in his novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Inspiration for many of the characters in his novel Tom Sawyer came from real people. He set his mother, as Aunt Polly. His sister and brother were cousins Mary and Cousin Sid. The real Laura Hawkins lived across the street from the Clemens family inspired Becky Thatcher. And Tom Blankenship from a poor family came Huckleberry Finn.
