The way the world works now is the consequence of our ancestors. There have been many people who have contributed positive things to the world and have left a legacy of their lives, these have been religious, characters, singers, writers, and scientists. As for example, Albert Einstein, William Shakespeare, Marilyn Monroe or Mother Teresa. Nevertheless, Mahatma Gandhi and 14th Dalai Lama are two political leaders who have influenced not only their countries and believed in non-violence, despite their different achievements and backgrounds. Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2nd of 1869 in Porbandar, India. He was born in a large room in the family’s three-story stone house where his uncles and their families lived as well. His mom was 22 years old and his dad 50. His mother, Putlibai was a religious woman and his father served as chief minister in his town. On the other hand, 14th Dalai Lama was born on July 6, 1935, in Taktser, China, and his parents were farmers. His birth name was Lhamo Dhondup and was identified as 14thDalai Lama after he was given several tests, which included choosing special items that belong to the 13th Dalai Lama.

Gandhi was a leader who made a difference in his country India, despite all his difficulties to be recognized as it. He achieved different recognitions, while he was nominated for the Nobel peace prize five times, he also was named Gandhi the Man of the Year by ‘Time’ magazine in 1930, and he was the leading figure responsible for India achieving independence. Dalai Lama was privileged with Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for his nonviolent efforts for the liberation of Tibet, he was offered the Christmas Humphreys Award by the Buddhist Society in The United Kingdom and also received the US Congressional Gold Medal from the US President George W. Bush in October 2007.

In these days, the legend of Gandhi and 14th Dalai Lama are still felt in all generations, event thought that Gandhi was assassinated in 1948, there are contemporary politicians who take their decisions from Gandhi’s message, and his example of non-violent protest is still reserved in today’s world. While 14th Dalai Lama is still alive and continues spreading his word of love through his Buddhist religion, even though he has already retired from the Central Tibetan Administration in 2011. It can be concluded that they both have been great men, although they grew up in two different families. Gandhi’s family was elite, and the Dalai Lama’s was humbler. Both through their leadership and circumstances that life gave them, they managed to change their countries and achieve global recognition, showing another way to solve the problems of society and be more love without violence.
