The College Experiences as the Opportunities for Knowledge

Essay details

Please note! This essay has been submitted by a student.

I believe your college experience is all up to you and what you make of the experience. You get what you put in to it, if you just sit in your room all day and not go to class or socialize at all you will be miserable. To have a successful college experience you need to join a club or a sports team, something to get you out and socializing with different people. One of the best ways to get involved, meet new people is to join a club on campus. Not only will joining a club expand your social circle. You will also get to Spend time with people who have the same interests as you, or join a club that relates to a topic you’ve been interested in but have never explored before.

Most people that say they had an unsuccessful experience did not do much with the opportunities that they had to make friends. These people for the most part did not go to classes on a regular basis which will always hurt you as far as learning goes. The other reason people have an unsuccessful experience is because they pick a major or study that really does not interest them. College is where you get more independence, but with more independence comes more responsibility. College is also a time where you learn your limits. Pretty much just growing up and becoming more mature. Don’t be lazy, go to lecture, do the homework, and make friends. This is what seniors I have talked to have said about the college experience. The college experience is ultimately up to you if you want to have a good time and learn a lot while doing it the chances are layed out there for you, you just have to be the adult you are capable of being and go get them. To me, college is about making mistakes, because once you’re an adult you cannot make the same mistakes. It is okay to make mistakes as long as you learn from them. Do a lot of everything, so long as it’s legal and somewhat safe. Nowhere else in life will you be around so many different people with such diverse and similar interests. You will make lifelong friends. Don’t take college for granted. It will pass you by before you know it.

I talked about ways to have a positive experience in college but not everyone is lucky enough to have this college experience actually a lot of people have the complete opposite of this. A lot of people that attend a college just kind of go through the motions of being a student and get half the knowledge they need to succeed after they do get the degree they worked so hard for. When this happens a lot of people will blame the university saying there is not anything to do on campus when in reality they don’t find stuff to do. The other reason people don’t have a successful experience is because they fail their classes because if they are struggling they don’t ask for help they just sit back and accept failure. The professors are actually here to help you they don’t want to see someone fail their class but they are also going to give you the grade you deserve.

In closing I feel that you get out of college what you put into it. If you give half everything you will be lucky to get even half out of the education you are there for. If you want a good job after college you need to get the full college experience and gain as much knowledge as you possibly can in the short amount of time you are there.
