Aristotle once said, “Man is by nature, a social animal. ” In this quote, he portrays that humans live for society and not for themselves, demonstrating that humans now live in opinion-built communities. These communities are all created through social media platforms and they lack real-life interaction. Social media has helped people to communicate all around the world, but I am here to tell you that man should put an end to it. We can prove to the world that we are not dependent on social media for communication and that we don’t have to be trapped in front of a screen for entertainment. Firstly, it has been scientifically proven by Amity University in India that the average person spends at least two years of their life on a phone.
Imagine what amazing things you could have achieved had you not been glued to a screen. You could have spent more time with your loved ones. The most important moments of your lives should be engrained in your internal memory rather than a virtual cloud. The University of Pew Research Centre has found that social media increases stress because we become too addicted to use it and people become anxious when they are forced to abstain from checking. Due to this, students can’t focus on their work as they are getting distracted to answer their messages. In my opinion, I think this is a major problem because the rate of productivity will drastically reduce, and children will start to hand in their homework which are overdue. This affects their grades and performs poorly at school. The age that people should use social media is 13, but almost 42% of the teenagers who use it is underaged. People have set the age at 13 for a good reason. Below that age is where we build the foundation of our lives at school. Yes, social media has helped a lot of people to talk to their friends and family across the world, but there is a limit to everything we should use. We must not be addicted to it, we could play some sports or do something productive. This boosts your skills but using social media does not improve anything.
Social media is like an addictive drug that is luring you to use it over and over again. People must limit their use of social media, this will help in concentration and health. Those who use it too much, spend late nights texting or looking at pictures on Instagram. This leads to people being tired the next day, this causes them to not think effectively and not as productive due to lack of sleep. Another reason is when people get addicted to social media, they also live away from reality. This means that people would say something that they would not say in reality. So, we feel overconfident to say anything that we want. We become overconfident because we won’t be able to face the consequences and don’t have to talk face to face. This can lead to cyberbullying as people can comment bad things about a person. As we all know, cyberbullying is a major problem in modern society. This can lead to the victim being depressed and sad, it is said that almost 50,000 teenagers commit suicide as they were fed up with life as they were teased and bullied. A victim of cyber bullying said, “I suffered from severe depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts,” in the website www. cbc. ca. Social media can also attract stalkers and kidnappers as they can see your profile and see your daily lives. Last year more than 4,000 people were kidnapped by kidnappers as they were posting pictures that they should not have sent, this gave an idea to the kidnappers where the person was, who he was with and what he was doing.
In conclusion, using social media has many benefits in our lives, but it could also be destructive in many ways, such as addiction, which leads to poor productivity rate. It has an awful influence on studying, make us live away from reality and has bad effects on our health and safety. You can avoid this by limiting the amount of time you spend on your phone, and while studying, you should switch off your phone, so you don’t get distracted and focus on your work. “Children may be 30% of the world’s population today, but they are 100% of the future”, said by Prince EA. So, if we train them to follow the correct path to success, then the future will be prosperous and a place to look forward to. But if they follow the wrong path, then the future will be a dark and unpleasant world to live in. So, therefore I believe that ending social media is the best solution to success and live a healthier life. Man must control social media before social media controls man…
