According to Wikipedia, event planning is the process of planning and coordinating the event which can include budgeting, scheduling, site selection, acquiring necessary permits, coordinating transportation and parking, arranging for speakers or entertainers, arranging decor, event security, catering, coordinating with third party vendors, and emergency plans.

A few people would know that event planning originally started during the Egyptian Era. It is believed that Queen Cleopatra was a great event planner and charmed and dazed her lovers and husbands by organizing innovative and captivating events. One of her greatest event entry was to impress the Roman Emperor Julius Caesar. She presented herself to the emperor by asking one of her servants to deliver her, rolled-up in an oriental carpet and dropped at the feet of the great ruler.

Madame Pompadour, the mistress to King Louis XV of France was another famous historical event planner. She entertained the king by throwing fabulous parties that combined lavish food, musicians, and artists using elaborate costumes and themes.

The infamous Marie Antoinette is also worth mentioning as an event planner in history. During the reign of her husband King Louis XVI, she planned extravagant events. The king impressed by her style and her love for event planning had an entire village and the Le Petit Trianon built for her where she could host her fabulous events. She was later, beheaded for this extravagance.

Businesses started collaborating at trade shows and meetings during the time of the Industrial Revolution. Individuals had more reasons to travel which was made easy due to the growing transportation facilities.

It was during the 20th century that the profession of event planning really took off. Wealthy families needed help from planners to handle the planning and preparation of their private events. The scope of planning events widened and became more complex. Professionally organized events became the need of the hour and event planners started handling everything from sending out invitations to managing caterers to after event activities.

The aging population also contributed greatly towards the success of the event planning industry. This population was well to do and had enough reasons like birthdays of their grandchildren, retirements, wedding anniversaries, etcetera to celebrate.

Finally, Globalization has been a great contributor to the evening planning industry. As events begin to mark their presence across the globe, the industry is on a continuous growth. It is creating jobs, encouraging new entrepreneurs and integrating people and companies across the world through varied opportunities. The need for event planners who can seamlessly bring together different businesses, people, and culture together on one platform is on an all time rise.
