Having a body weight more than 20 percent greater than recommended for the relevant height and thus at risk from several serious illnesses, including diabetes and heart disease have become an outbreak that has spread more quickly and more extensively among a group of people than would normally be expected in the United States, mainly due to neighborhoods not having enough money to take care of basic needs such as clothing, housing, and without enough access containing different parts in suitable quantities or suitably arrangements to produce a satisfying and effective whole diets in the form of complete, including all parts of foods such as fresh fruit and vegetables, milk, and unprocessed meats. In these general vicinities or surrounding areas, there are normally more convenience stores found and fast food restaurants than arable lands or grocery stores. Without any question or doubt, this leads to the widespread and evidently poverty family making due with what is readily able to be used and obtained, which is food that usually has any deliberate change that occurs before it’s available for us to eat. It can be as simple as freezing or drying food to preserve nutrients and freshness high in sodium and unhealthy ingredients.

Ethically and socially speaking, utilitarianism and deontology both band together in this scenario. Deontology “focuses on what we are obligated to do as rational moral agents” (Mosser, 2013, Ch. 1.6), with utilitarianism dictating that what should be done is that which is best for everyone, therefore, how is it moral for one segment of the population to have ready access to grocery stores and restaurants that serve healthier items, while the other must make do with low grade foodstuffs that shorten their lives against their will? The beautiful thing is that there is a growing act of change, to change the classification of unused or no longer lived in land into community gardens for poverty-stricken areas. To continue, or keep in existence, a course of action, or condition without changing or impairing it, keeping it maintained by the community as whole, these gardens would provide fresh fruits and vegetables, allowing children to get the vitamins and minerals that are of the highest importance for achieving healthy growth. If this were to come to past, it would lower the rates of Children who are obese are above the normal weight for their age and height, disease in which the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired, resulting in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose in the blood and urine, and a whole host of other weight related diseases that cause high mortality rates.

People who carry out academic and scientific research at the University of Utah discovered that people who banded together in a way that involves mutual assistance in working towards a common goal and create community gardens have lower body mass indexes contrasts to their neighbors who did not take part, a change that is a result and a consequence showing that women who took part in community gardens were eleven pounds lighter than those who did not, and men were sixteen pounds lighter on average (U News Center, 2013).
