In Seminar 4 titled “Auditing and System Certification” with two guest resource speaker namely Engr. Ferdie Javier and Engr. Jose Ramon R. Cruz. Engr. Javier graduated from Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Sta. Mesa as electronics engineering. From January 2019 up to present, Engr. Javier is working as a facilities and Logistics Officer at Heads Engineering Maintenance and Insurance, Service Contract monitoring. He is also a lecturer in Far Eastern University – Institute of Technology from March 2015 to April 2018. Engr. Cruz graduated from Rizal Technological University as an electrical engineering. He is working at TUV Rheinland Philippines, Inc. as a test engineer from July 6,2017 up to present.

Auditing refers to an inspection of various books of accounts by an auditor. It follows by physical checking of inventory to make sure that all departments are the same format of document system of recording transactions. It is also an evaluation of the statements of an organization to see if there is a fair accurate representation of the transaction they claim to represent. This auditing practices use in companies, government agencies and non-profit organization. It helps an organization to indicate accountability to internal and external stakeholders. Examples of auditing are daily cash report, department-level audit, data quality audit, and purchasing system. System certification is a methodology use for evaluating, describing, testing, and authorizing of products like appliances and equipment. It is also a documentation of information system security safeguards, both technical and non-technical, in a laboratory by using established standards that needed to follow. Usually it follows an accreditation where it is an official, written approval for the operation of the product or a system in a specific environment. The purpose of system certification is to avoid having problems with the appliances and equipment when someone uses it.

The first part of the seminar talks about auditing. For this topic it was introduced by Engr. Javier. It is important in every company because it evaluates the effectiveness of the inside controls of the company. Because maintaining a system is vital for achieving success in every company’s business objectives, it prevents fraud in assets, minimizes its cost of capital, and it is reliable in obtaining the financial assets on its operation. There are internal and independent audit that contributes to the audit system of a company in different ways.

The second part of the seminar is about system certification where Engr. Cruz talks about it. Their company TUV Rheinland Philippines, Inc. handles the system certification. The purpose of having certification in our products and system is to add credibility that meets the expectations of your customers. For some industries, certification is a contractual requirement. The benefits of certification system are it improves customer service, acquired new customers and retaining old clients, achieved cost savings, and boosted their performance. There are studies and findings that having certification in adopters, for example, having faster sales growth, increased employment in some companies and fewer workplace injuries. The reason some companies or organizations obtain system certification. Because in every business, there are three basic challenges that can threaten their success. First, they need to comply with customer requirements and government regulation and standards to follow. Because once they did not have this type of certification, there is a high chance of your business might shut down. Second, it needs to protect the organization through the quality and instituting business practices. Because sometimes, if there were products that were sent back by the customer because of failure systems, the organization might get sued or damage their reputation. Last is the extending satisfaction of every customer, thereby increasing revenue. In industry, satisfaction of the customers is the main priority in every company because once you reach their satisfaction; they either trust your company or buy your other products.
