First we are going to Hilton Head Island, North Carolina to talk about the causes of drug taking in sports. There are many reasons for drug taking in sports… To start us off some people just think that they are not good enough to make the team or they are just underestimating themselves. Many young high school students account for this. They also think that they should use Performance Enhancing Drugs just because their favorite sports player or just any sports player is using them. “For many male high school athletes, pro athletes are major influences. They are the role models. They choose the jersey numbers of their favorite professional players. They emulate their training regimens. They emulate their style of play. And they are influenced by their drug use. When a professional athlete admits to using steroids, the message young athletes hear is not always the one that is intended. Young athletes often believe that steroid use by their role models gives them permission to use. They think that it is simply part of what one must do to become an elite athlete.” This is what Greg Schwab who is the principal of Mountlake Terrace High School and former University of Oregon offensive tackle football player said. This means that pro athletes are the main reason that high school students take drugs. Now we go to the pro athletes, as athletes they face enormous pressure to excel in competition. They also know that winning can give them more than a gold medal. A star athlete can earn a lot of money and a lot of fame, and athletes only have a short time to do their best work. Athletes know that training is the best path to victory, but they also get the message that some drugs and other practices can boost their efforts and give them a shortcut, even as they risk their health, their athletic careers and their dignity. We have just gone over the causes of drug taking in sports.
Now we are going to Clearwater Beach, Florida to talk about the effects of drug taking in sports. You may think that PEDS will help you… but there are dangerous side effects too. Some dangerous effects might be liver disease, seizures, nausea, heart attack or even a stroke. If you get caught taking PEDS your whole life, your athletic career, and your dignity will be gone. You will be all over the news, everywhere and people would be talking trash about you. Nobody wants that. Studies show that cycling has the most doping cases, at 3.71 percent. For example take Lance Armstrong, he was all over the news after he confessed to taking PEDS. All 7 of his Tour De France titles were revoked. In this way he lost his dignity and his athletic career. We have just talked about the effects of drug taking in sports.
Finally we are going to the Bahamian Islands to talk about the solutions. There are many ways to find out if someone is cheating by taking drugs. Sudden changes in overall physical appearance, Loss of memory, sudden mood swings, increased aggression, diminished self-esteem, and anxiety. After you find out you can take them to a psychologist or a rehab center to bring them back to normal. Or you yourself can talk to them about it and try to stop it. We have just talked about the solutions to drug taking in sports.
